Spectrum Chromatography is the premier supplier of low-pressure liquid chromatography columns to
biochemical researchers. The available columns range in length from 10 to 200 cm (about 4 inches
to 6 feet) and in diameter from 0.6 to 15 cm (about 1/4 to 6 inches). The column bodies are
borosilicate glass (generally Pyrex®) and the endplates are made of various plastics.
Our columns are put into two categories which reflect their intended applications and materials of construction:
Our aqueous series columns feature black polypropylene endplates. These are resistance to dilute organics and to
reasonably concentrated (2 N) acids and bases. These columns each include two fixed (stationary) endplates; the lower
endplate includes a 10 µm bed support and the upper endplate includes a vent port for
venting any gas which may accumulate in the column. Accessories which can enhance the utility of these columns include
adjustable plungers (a.k.a. flow adapters)
for adjusting the packed length of the column
and water jackets
for controlling the temperature of the columns.
Our organic series columns feature white Teflon® endplates, the only wetted materials
in these columns are glass and Teflon. These are resistance to most chromatography
solvents, including acids and bases.
